We aim to support a just transition to a sustainable, climate-resilient society that protects the interests of current and future generations, particularly those of vulnerable and marginalized communities

Strategic litigation is a necessary response in today's political climate, where environmental protections are being dismantled, corporate interests resist change, and global inequities continue to grow.

By funding legal research and litigation, we support one of the most effective remaining methods to address the climate crisis.

Nicomachos Research & Development Fund

Our work currently centres around our Research & Development (R&D) Fund.

This fund supports research into potential climate litigation pathways and the development of ongoing climate cases.

We look for projects that are innovative and system-changing in approach, recognise the societal context in which they operate, and demonstrate a comprehensive strategy for meaningful societal impact.

From our R&D fund we award a maximum of 50k in Euros.

We support not-for-profit organisations and/or more or less organised community groups that are looking to scope, research or fund the (external) legal costs of new or ongoing legal cases. We do not support religious or political groups.

Historical portrait depicting Nicomachos, Aristotle's son

The Ethica Nicomachea is the Greek philosopher Aristotle's major work on ethics. Both his father and son were named Nicomachos, and tradition holds that his son played a key role in recording and preserving this foundational text.

We draw on Aristotle's legacy not only for its name, but for what it represents: a belief that justice is not just a concept, but a practice—one that requires courage and action.

In that spirit, Nicomachos supports those using the law to confront the defining ethical challenge of our time: the climate crisis.
